The Metropolitan Opera has announced changes to the beginning of its 2021-22 season.

In a statement the company said “After 16 months of closure, the Met has had to make some changes to the start of the 2021–22 season to accommodate the necessary technical preparations.”

As a result, the Met has cancelled its production of “Iphégenie en Taurde” and has postponed a previously planned concert featuring soprano Anna Netrebko and the Met Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. The concert, which was set to take place on Oct. 10, 2021, will be postponed to a future season.

“Iphigénie en Tauride” was scheduled to take place between Sept. 29 and Oct. 15.

The company has also canceled the first performance of “Turandot” on Oct. 7.

The season is set to start on Sept. 27 with a production of “Fire Shut Up in My Bones.” It will be followed on the 28th by “Boris Godunov;” those two operas will be the only ones to hold the Met stage until Oct. 12 when “Turandot” will now open.

The Met Opera recently announced a tentative agreement with IATSE Local One that would allow many employees, including stagehands, to return to work ahead of the 2021-22 season.
